ANAND SHARMA TO ADDRESS AT NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTIVITY FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH”
Date : 01 Oct 2009
Location : New Delhi
Shri Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, will be the Chief Guest at the National Seminar on “Industrial Productivity for Inclusive Growth”, here on 5th October, 2009. The seminar is being organized by the National Productivity Council, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. A number of international and national experts are expected to deliberate on the subjects with the following objectives: Understanding the scope, current strategies & changing role of Industry for Inclusive Growth; Corporate Governance & Corporate Social Responsibility - Remodeling for Enhancing Social Productivity and Inclusive Growth; identifying Initiatives in Industrial Productivity & Technology for Inclusive Growth; and industry & NGO/Government Partnership for Inclusive Growth
The recent Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization has brought in intense competition and consequently enhanced focus on commercial focus of business more than ever and could be the reason for increasing gap between “Haves” and “Have Nots” i.e. industrial employees and related population on one-side and rural and urban poor & informal and unorganized sector employees on the other. The role of industry in general is very critical in reducing the gap between organized and unorganized sector. The recent global meltdown has affected not only the organized sector employment but also had its throwback effect on the unorganized sector.
The recent focus on Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance as well as ethical aspects of running business – in particular the product safety and life-cycle – impact of the industry/product on the society are some of those initiatives forcing the industry to look at certain facets having bearing on Inclusive Growth. As a matter of fact, the increasingly popular concept of triple bottom-line does focus on the need to have a relook and introspect on the social and environmental productivity and sustainability of the business as well. The enhanced and complementary role of industry comes at the center stage to catalyze the efforts of the government in making it more effective in tackling the issues of Inclusive Growth and also add its bit by taking on certain independent programmes and projects of enhancing the employability of the BPL segment of the society.
